Saturday May 3rd was the start of America’s first celebration of Fair Trade Fortnight (May 3-18th), a two-week period surrounding World Fair Trade Day on Saturday May 10th. The purpose of the celebration is to bring attention to the growing fair trade movement. Many organizations are holding special fair trade events during this period, such as Bambootique’s Spring Trunk Show we held last Saturday (sign up for our email list so you don’t miss out next time!).
Each day of Fair Trade Fortnight I’ll highlight a different fair trade product here on my blog. I’ll tell you why it’s important and where you can find it. Watch for more info in the coming days on fair trade sugar, soccer balls, and even chocolate chip cookies (yum!!!).
In honor of Fair Trade Fortnight and the incredible artisans who participate in fair trade, Bambootique is donating 20% of all online skincare product orders and 10% of all other online orders to help start a coconut oil cooperative in Liberia. (That’s Anna, one of the co-op members to the left.) We’ll donate based on orders between now and May 18th, so get shopping! Use this opportunity to shop for graduation gifts and Mother’s Day. Yes, there’s still time to shop for Mom (Mother’s Day is next Sunday May 11th). Just put a note in the comments at checkout that it’s a Mother’s Day gift and we’ll make sure you get it on time, so long as you order no later than this Thursday May 8th.
