About Me

for_blog.jpg I (Beth) am a wife, mother and social entrepreneur with a passion for “just living,” as in living in a way to promote equity and justice. I have come to recognize that my modern lifestyle has an incredible impact on the planet and on others, especially the poor. I am on a quest to live more justly in suburban America, particularly through promoting and shopping fair trade. The best part about changing how I live? I find my life is far richer and more beautiful when I make choices that do good for others!

I’ve spent time in developing countries (Latin America, SE Asia) and in low income communities in Chicago. The most incredible impact I’ve seen is when the poor, especially women, are economically empowered. My faith compels me to act on that knowledge. My passions took a new shape in 2006 when I co-founded my online fair trade boutique, Bambootique. Bambootique carries handbags, jewelry, scarves, candles, paper products and skincare products, all made by skilled women artisans from Asia, Latin America and Africa. All our products are fair trade and eco-friendly. I find running a business from home with a small child to be the greatest but most rewarding challenge I have ever faced.

This time in my life is exhilarating, exhausting, and satisfying and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Besides running my business and hanging out with my beautiful daughter, Grace, I enjoy lazy evenings with my wonderful husband, Steve, cooking, gardening and reading but nothing beats my travel addiction. Steve and I write about the joys and trials of traveling with a baby on another blog, Kids Go Global.

Thanks for visiting Everyday Just Living and I hope you’ll be a regular visitor!

“…What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 (NIV)

    Hi there,

I’m a newbie greenie. But in my desire to dig a bit deeper into the green way of life (after 7 yrs overseas where life was just different) I am leading a discovery group at the MOMS group which I attend (Mentors and Mothers) at my church.
I am encouraging all the moms in my group to receive at least one blog – such as yours – by email to help our minds get refocussed and to stir our imaginations as to which things we can realistically do to become a bit more green.
Having said all that, I’m searching for a blog like yours, but based out of Canada. can you think of one that you particularly recommend? I seem to be finding alot of American blogs.
Thanks for your help. Your blog is great.

    Hello Beth,
I just happened upon your blog because a friend of mine had seen it. I just started my own business from home doing very similar work to yours (and I have two little ones). We should swap stories for sure.
I also followed one of your links to your travelblog and found that we share another love.
At any rate…you are welcome to check out my webstore at http://www.lahistoria.ca and perhaps (with your permission) we could feature each other’s links on our respective websites. What do you think?
I look forward to hearing back from you and thank you for work!
